Site of the Week by Rubbish Raiders

This week’s featured site is from Rubbish Raiders, a “junk removal” company from Memphis, Tennessee owned by Steven Lowery.  They specialize in removing large and small items from residences and businesses and then recycling them, or dumping them as necessary.  Steven is an early adopter of vSites and has already implemented some of our great new features.

Here are my favorite things about the Rubbish Raiders site:

1. The unique “splash image.”  The Rubbish Raiders home page features an antiquated pick-up truck, and the quality and effects applied to the picture make it appear as if it was taken in the 1930′s. This is an example of how one can use vSites new Picnik integration feature to enhance the “splash images” on his or her site. Picnik allows users to do basic picture editing like cropping, rotating, and color changing.  But, it also has more advanced editing capabilities such as adding text, and it offers effects like sepia, black and white, and many more creative options. Splash images are one of the first things website visitors see, and Rubbish Raiders does a fantastic job presenting a unique and relevant image.

 2. It is simple.  Rubbish Raiders does a good job “removing all the rubbish” (pun intended), and focusing on the most important part of a website, the content.  Within 30 seconds of visiting the website one can tell who the company is, what they do, what they do not do and how to contact them. They also do a great job using white space, which improves the readability of site.

 3. Clear calls to action. This is a crucial feature many websites neglect, and Rubbish Raiders does a great job making their “calls to action” obvious.  On their services page there are 4 calls to action before a visitor ever scrolls down, making it more likely a visitor will reach out and contact Rubbish Raiders with questions.  I also like how they make it easy to find their contact info, but they don’t force it upon you.

In addition to the features already listed, the Rubbish Raiders custom header image brings the site together.  Their logo, company name, and contact info are displayed in a simple yet appealing way. They also include a clever slogan “It’s our turn to take out the trash!” under their prominent call to action “Call Today!”
